Principal Engineer (PE)
Position Description:
The Principal Engineer works closely with all teams across the company to support Hiltz achieving its goals. With responsibility to manage the Engineers and direct the Drafters on a daily basis, support the coordination of projects, communicate with customers and key personnel, and develop improvements and efficiencies across the department, this role is extremely important to the growth of Hiltz Propane Systems.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position manages the Engineering team.
- Other Employee Supervision duties as required.
- Liaison between the Director of Project Operations and employees on a variety of employee-related matters.
- Manager a team of Engineers.
- Daily direction to a team of 2-4 Drafters.
- Oversees various aspects of design, workflow, staffing, and budget allocation.
- Delegate tasks and accountabilities, instruct, supervise, lead and direct.
- Participates in providing detailed input for employee annual reviews.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The responsibilities of the Senior Engineer include, but are not limited to:
- Willingness to achieve a P.E. registration in the states Hiltz operates.
- Grow, Develop, and Manage a team of PE’s and EIT’s.
- Collaborates with project staff to create a strategic action plan and cost estimates of materials, time, labor, and other resources required to complete the project.
- Facilitates and contributes to the development of project plans and designs.
- Recommends and/or analyzes materials, equipment, and practices used in the project.
- Supervises progress of development design.
- Compares the actual cost of development project to estimates.
- Collaborates with design group to change plans if challenges arise.
- Analyzes equipment, systems, processes, and systems to identify modifications to improve efficiency, increase quality, and reduce costs.
- Prepares periodic progress and cost reports for leadership.
- Ensures compliance with codes, guidelines, best practices, and policies.
- Collaborates with the operations department to identify and troubleshoot problems.
- Collaborates with other project engineers to share problems and solutions.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Work Conditions
Out-of-town travel is required.
- Work is performed in an indoor and outdoor setting, which could include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.
- Must be physically able to repetitively lift and carry at least 15 lbs. on a regular basis.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Use of Personal Protection Equipment is required.
- Must comply with the company’s drug and alcohol testing requirements.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Preferred Education and Experience
- At least five years of experience in engineering, systems design, or other related field.
- Bachelor’s degree in related engineering discipline required.
- Professional Engineer licenses in several states.
